Jeff founded SUCCESSWARE, INC. in 1980 as one of the first PC-database technology consulting companies, evolving it into a software asset development and publisher in 1990. Following a series of best-selling software products and multiple licenses to Computer Associates and Extended Systems, LUXENT DEVELOPMENT CORP. - a technology aggregator with its base in Europe - acquired SuccessWare in 1994 and was quite successful in its mission to enable global businesses through the acquisition and integration of synergistic technologies. In 1998, Luxent decided to consolidate its operations in Europe and Jeff opted to remain in California.
Not wanting to move to Paris, Jeff joined forces with Marc Schillaci, creating EBZ INTERNATIONAL, INC. with the goal of advancing the success of innovative businesses by enabling their commercial use of internet-accessible Enterprise DBMS tools. Achieving this through the development of both custom and turnkey software; e-business training; and e-commerce supply chain initiatives, they marketed to Fortune 1000, Big 5 consultants and corporate development staffs worldwide. Enterprise licensees for these products & training services included Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard and IKEA.
Once successful in its B2B endeavors, EBZ further extended their market reach to include small to medium-sized business by hosting versions of their high-availability e-business tools and training on the web (as an Application Service Provider or ASP) and offering it at mass-market subscription rates. This Enterprise product (e-BIZ Factory) was well received and honored with many industry awards for its innovations on the web and later converted to an ASP deliverable (e-BIZ in a BOX) and launched with great success into the mass/retail distribution market. With this subscription packaging innovation, retail sales & membership soared, attracting the attention of many newly-minted IPO companies looking for a profit-driven acquisitions, including LivePerson and Affinity Internet, among others.
In 2001, EBZ International, Inc. reached an agreement with Big Picture, a publicly held company in Canada, and was integrated there. Following that, Jeff spent the next few years working on successful "turnaround" assignments, including HOMESTORE.com (nasdaq: HOMS), and DRAKE CERTIVO, the world's leading standards-based education & certification company, before co-founding enterprise information convergence (EIC) start-up Tsunamin Corp. with Bill Stow (founder of Starbase.)
Between 2004-2007, Jeff directed the marketing and sales efforts for Pictage.com, the world leader in online wedding photo commerce and business tools for professional photographers, where he introduced subscription-based community marketing initiatives, ultimately increasing revenues to over $40MM, resulting in a successful acquisition by Apax Partners for $29MM in 2006. Excited to return to his the photography industry, Jeff is Chief Marketing Officer for SmugMug.com, the greatest community and online showcase for photographic art. A featured speaker at international conferences on technology business development issues for over 25 years, he is also working on his next book, detailing his experiences building and motivating world-class executive teams.
